the ones that keep us golden
rebecca wallis

5 - 23 August 2014

Following on from her successful solo show in 2013, Rebecca Wallis shifts her focus from the physical to the psychological, presenting a series of works that each explore a "small, internal emotion seeking a resolution".

Wallis is a master of gouache, pushing the boundaries of this medium to achieve unusual and captivating effects. John Hurrell made note of her almost graphic use of gouache juxtaposed with an effect like watercolour, "delicate and intense", in his review of her exhibition 'Found... Parts'. In 'The Ones That Keep Us Golden', Wallis harnesses these processes, such as the dissolution of the pigment, to mirror or highlight the fragility of the emotion she is trying to describe.
