Rebecca Wallis

28 May - 15 June 2013

Rebecca Wallis' painting relies on a broad awareness of effects and the thoughts they can illicit.

The paintings gradually open themselves up, the subjects barely recognizable. They grow from within, as a fragile matrix, gradually taking on meaning and form. The beginnings are deliberately occluded; the soft washes in gouache leave traces of things foreign and yet familiar. The resulting images are abstract, and yet the hints of things real are never lost.

Rebecca Wallis lives in Auckland but her art practice was cemented with a Masters Degree from Goldsmiths College of Art in London, bringing an international understanding and focus to her work. She is a past winner of the Walker and Hall Art Awards and this is her first show with Orexart.
