Andrew Curtis was born in 1966 in Melbourne, where he still resides. Curtis has a Diploma of Photography from the Australian College of Photography, Art and Communication. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, has been awarded several 'New Work' grants from both Arts Victoria and the Australia Council, and has work is represented in key Australian public collections.

Lighting is a key element of Curtis' photography; his signature technique of 'painting with light' by tracing over an object with a handheld lamp during exposure produces an unearthly glow appropriate to a world that is secret, staged and strange.

In the series Cell, Curtis adopts as his light source the cool white glow of cellphones, illuminating the faces of young women at night in clubs and bars as they send text messages, absorbed, in private pools of light against blurred dark and neon backgrounds. In July, Orexart is proud to present Moonlight Mile, originally exhibited at Melbourne's Blockprojects in February 2013. He describes this work revealingly as an "artificial typology of mountains from another world, a sort of sublime, romantic version of Bernd and Hilla Becher's typologies of the industrial landscape".
