Orexart has been exhibiting emerging and established artists from New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific since 1990.

While the name changed from Oedipus Rex Gallery to Orexart in 2008, the gallery's mission remains the same: to build the careers of its established artists and encourage the development of promising newcomers.

This year, the gallery has consolidated, creating an atmospheric, industrial space in Arch Hill, on Auckland's city fringe. Featuring a large, light exhibition space as well as an intimate viewing room, the new space offers scope and flexibility to show the range of exhibitions and projects in the gallery programme.

Director, Rex Armstrong brings years of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the gallery's front of house. He operates with the invaluable assistance of Communications Manager, Kim Shaw and gallery mascots, Scottish terriers Robson and Gladys. He suffers the occasional incursion from the sidelines by partner (and co-director) Jennifer Buckley, founding Director of Auckland Art Fair.
